Jared and I have lived in our neighborhood now for four years. I have always felt extremely safe there and quite honestly have left my house unlocked for periods of time, windows open - generally upstairs windows only, car doors unlocked with my purse in it, etc. I am not someone who worries about my belongings being stolen, or my life being threatened.
Well a few weeks ago, there was a news van in our neighborhood doing a story on a vehicle that was broken into around the corner from us. Me, being a nosey neighbor, had to go check out the news van and see what was going on. Turns out a lot of Honda's have been getting broken into or stolen around the St. Helens area, so the news crew decided to do a report. I am still not all that worried about my vehicle getting broken into, but it is sad to hear that something of that nature happened where I live.
Last night, I got a phone call from my neighbor Adam, here is our conversation:
Adam: Hey, did you put some movies on our doorstep?
Jennifer: Uhm...movies...what kind of movies?
Adam: Shelly and I just got home from work and we saw them sitting there...
Adam: DVD movies
Jennifer: Like dirty movies or just a regular blockbuster film?
Adam: Well the movies are Click (with Adam Sandler) and some Jet Li Dragon movie
Jennifer: Weird...no I didn't put that on your doorstep, besides I have been at work all day
Adam: Yah, well I will ask around
Jennifer: Good luck, let me know what you learn
Adam: Okay peace out
So after hanging up the phone I called Jared and told him about it and we sorta just blew it off no thinking anything of it. Well, this morning as I left the house, I happened to glance at our doorstep (I suppose if we actually used our front door to go in and out of the house I might have noticed sooner) and there were a stack of movies sitting there. I am guessing they were there last night and we just didn't pay attention. Anyway, we got three movies, Empire Records, Dragon 2000 and Desperately Seeking Susan. I am starting to think this whole movie on doorsteps thing is a bit creepy, but maybe just a prank of sorts. I mean it is Spring Break and there are plenty of unsupervised kids around. When I got to work, I emailed my neighbor Shelly who had movies on her door last night and told her what happened. She is totally weirded out by the whole situation. I don't normally make a big deal of this type of thing, but decided to call the St. Helens non-emergency to report what had happened. I received a phone call from a very nice police officer who basically said: "Enjoy your new movies". Apparently there were no stolen DVD reports, so the officer wasn't too concerned, but said he would call if any other reports came in. Regardless, I won't actually be watching these movies.....I am a big time movie buff and have seen too many horror movies. I keep thinking if I play one of the movies, it is going to be something else that tells me I am going to die in two days or something.....silly I know!
Anyway, after emailing with my neighbor I learned that on Saturday night - March 21, 2009 there were tons of cops across the street from her house. Apparently one of our neighbors committed suicide. CREEPY! I don't believe I know who the person was, and still don't know much but am curious to hear more about what happened.
I mean, we live in a very nice upscale neighborhood, where you just wouldn't think that these types of events would occur. So the past few weeks have been a bit of an eye opener that these things can happen anywhere, even if you aren't expecting it! I just hope that we can figure out where these random movies came from.....I don't like unsolved mysteries!

Oooh! Now you sound like me. Is the boogeyman gonna come through your TV and get you sissy? :)
I am really not creeped out about leaving things unlocked still (unlike someone else I know). But I am not going to watch those movies left on my doorstep in the case the boogeyman does come through my TV. ;-)
That IS creepy! I would lock those doors from now on.
Just thought I would say hi. I saw you following my blog so I thought I would follow yours too. Take care!
