On Wednesday October 7th I just arrived home from work around 5pm. I had changed into my "comfy" clothes and was starving, so Jared and I were working on dinner. I had planned on making burgers, however somehow managed to forget to stop at the store on the way home to grab buns (my mind was on "auto-pilot"). So we switched up the plan and made chicken and corn on the cob instead.
Anyway, I was having some major pressure on my bladder area and something just wasn't feeling right....I felt like I could have been leaking amniotic fluid. I called my sister in law Justine since she had recently gone through a pregnancy. After discussing some things with her, she suggested I call the doctor. I went ahead and called the on call doctor at the hospital and basically he told me to come in. It isn't always fun for us to make the trek into Portland (especially since I just came from there). Although the ultimate goal is to make sure the baby is healthy, so of course worth the 45 minute drive when needed.
Upon arrival it was a crazy night, so it took a while to be seen. However, they ran all kinds of tests as we patiently waited. As it turned out I was contracting every 3-4 minutes and I was dilated to 1 cm. already. (Not good at this stage of pregnancy). All the other tests they ran turned out to be negative, so overall good signs that we weren't going to deliver the baby tonight. My water hadn't broken, there is still plenty of room for the baby, and they ran a test that said if I would deliver within the next week or two that turned out negative. My cervical length was still nice and long, so that was great news as well. They ended up putting me on an IV to hydrate me enough hoping it would help stop the contractions. The contractions never stopped, but overall I felt fine.
I was sent home around midnight and just told to make an appointment for Friday with my perinatologist and continue to monitor my symptoms, etc.
I was/continue to be a bit nervous about what is going on, but have to trust that the baby will arrive when he is ready and that he will be in great hands with all the wonderful doctors I have been privileged enough to work with. This little momma just needs to slow herself down a bit and take time to rest. ;-)
